John McCarthy To Represent Team USA

The Valley Jr. Warriors wish the best of luck to former player John McCarthy as he prepares for the the 2018 Winter Olympics Games taking place February 9th through the 24th.

 

The Andover, MA native played for the Warriors from 1996-2000, from squirt minors, to peewee majors. In his peewee minor and peewee major seasons, he played alongside teammate Bobby Farnham (former Montreal Canadian, now Springfield Thunderbird). He played under head coach Ken Cleary for his entire Jr. Warrior career. Cleary spent 15 years coaching the Warriors at every level possible. During his coaching tenure, he coached the like of Chris Krieder, and also won numerous State Titles.

 

McCarthy later went on to play four years of college hockey at Boston University, earning a NCCA Championship in 2008-09. Following his time as a Terrier, he was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 2006 draft. He later went on to play in the AHL for the San Jose Barracudas where he continues to play today. He has captained the Barracuda for both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. He tallied up 88 games in his five-year NHL career.
